Construction of loop track around Lake Elizabeth.
Lake Elizabeth in the Otways, Victoria was formed in the early 1950's following a massive landslide. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment, who manages the area, obtained funding to create a circular track around the lake to enhance it's recreational potential.

Benching
Along much of its length the new track required full benching on cross slopes of up 47 degrees.
|
Unobtrusive access to lake
The new track affords views of the lake as it weaves through thick temperate rain forest.
|
Boardwalk construction.
The track crossed a boggy flood-prone area at the far end of the lake and required "duckboarding", a type of raised wooden walkway commonly employed in Australia.
|
Finished boardwalk
To blend more effectively with the surounding natural landscape the boardwalk was layed out with large flowing curves.
|
Curving bridge bearers
To cross a creek a curving bridge was built. The initial stage required the laminated bearers to be bent to the desired shape.
