Reconstruction of the South Bass Trail
The Bass Trail was built by George Bass, an early Grand Canyon pioneer, who began small scale mining and tourist operations in the area 120 years ago. After his death in the 1920s the trail fell into a state of neglect, and by the beginning of this century large sections had been lost or rendered unfit for hikers. In 2004 I coordinated American Conservation Experience crews to reconstruct this historically significant trail.
