North Bass Trail Reconstruction
In the summer of 2005, work commenced on the reconstruction of the North Bass Trail. Reaching the project site was a major undertaking in its self, requiring an 11 mile hike down from the North Rim with camping gear, hand tools and food. Fresh supplies were dropped off at the Colorado River by raft at regular intervals and these in turn required a 4 mile round trip to collect. This is perhaps the most remote and challenging project I have ever been involved with and its successful completion in the most extreme of logistic and environmental circumstances is testament to the quality of the young participants involved and the dedication and professionalism of their supervisors.
