Zig-zagged Path Construction.
A social path leading up to Helm Crag near Grasmere was forming a large erosion scar. It was decided that the best solution to this problem was to construct a new benched path that would zig-zag up the slope at a much gentler grade. While the new path was being built the erosion scar would be repaired by filling it in with stone and covering it with turf. The following photos show the construction process as well as before and after shots of the erosion scar.
